Woodborough Horticultural Society
The Spring Show in April was well attended throughout - a big “thank you” to everyone. The numbers of entries were up on the previous year by more than 100 (something to do with the fine weather, perhaps…?). As usual it was very pleasing to see such a healthy turn out in the afternoon when the show opened to the public. Along with stalls from the RSPB and Phoenix Cards, the tea and home-made cakes for sale, the whole show made for an enjoyable afternoon.
Congratulations to all our winners and in particular the trophy winners: Lyndon Clements, Kathryn Hallam, Pat Berrisford, Inga Filmer and Jill Hicking. Marie Grundy came away with the ‘Best in Show’ medal for her daffodil “Misty Glen”. David Rose and Peter Kirkland won the special hyacinth and daffodil classes respectively.
The Young Persons section was well represented: Imogen L and Grace R succeeded in winning trophies in their respective age groups. Finally, we were especially pleased to see quite a few entries in our new ‘Novice Class’ for showing daffodils which was won by Stella Bush.
Our next speaker meeting is on Monday 8th May starting at 7.30pm in the Village Hall. We welcome Jo Bennison with her presentation “Peonies” and we look forward to seeing both members and non-members on the night. Non-members entry fee is just £2.00 per person.
RHS Chatsworth Flower Show will be our destination for our day visit on Saturday 10th June. The trip is already fully booked and further information regarding pick-up times etc. will be passed in due course to all those going.
On Monday 19th June, we have our Evening Visit. This year, Hammonds Farm in Redhill will be our destination. Again, more information will be forthcoming shortly: members will receive an invitation through their door or by email. Or we have our notice board on Main Street, opposite the entry to the church.
And finally, a reminder that 2017 is the Horticultural Society’s 40th Anniversary! We plan to celebrate at our Rose and Summer Flower Show on Monday 26th June and look forward to seeing as many of the members there as possible.

It will be a great opportunity to share knowledge and pick up tips, plus you might get inspiration to try a new craft! Open to all ages and all crafters. Phone Jane Waite 07985293351 or 01159 664907 if you have any questions.
